Otro Cafe: Mexican brunch with los perros

Overall Dog Experience: 5/10
Dog Friendly: 4/10
Shade: 9/10
Crowd: High

Came here for the dog-friendly patio, stayed for the papas fritas (and many other delicious foods). Otro Cafe is a locally owned Mexican restaurant that offers brunch, lunch and dinners in the central Phoenix area. From the front, Otro Cafe appears to only offer indoor dining as it resides amongst a strip of storefronts off of 7th Avenue. However, if you drive around back to park behind you’ll notice their fully shaded patio. Don’t let the concrete block walls of the facade fool you. As you step into the patio entrance you’re greeted by clean concrete floors, chic table seating and potted plants. When you arrive, be sure to check in with the host at the front before heading to the back patio entrance.

It’s important to note that this restaurant’s outdoor tables are spaced close to one another. We visited recently and found Korra to be a bit too large and antsy to stay seated under the table. Her tail was either wagging in the aisle or hitting our neighbor’s chair. Korra frequents restaurants and is a well-mannered dog, so we don’t blame her. We’d just conclude that Otro’s setup is a bit more advantageous for smaller dogs (like Ziggy) or calm, sleepy ones that are willing to lay down and move around less. Nonetheless, our table neighbors and waitresses loved Korra.

An alternative to sitting for brunch is grabbing a coffee and pastry from Otro Cafecito. This cafe is attached to the original Otro Cafe, but is a separate menu and ordering system. There’s a few shaded cafe tables you can snag in the front to enjoy a sweet treat outside with your dog.

Otro Cafe can be found at: 6035 N 7th St, Phoenix, AZ 85014

Disfrute! (enjoy)
