Dreamy Draw: loop hikes

Overall Dog Experience: 9/10
Dog Friendly: 10/10
Shade: 0/10
Crowd: Low

Dreamy Draw recreational area off of Northern Avenue re-opened after years of water pipe construction. The remodeled park is a great starting point for several hiking trail loop options with your dog.

The trailhead has bathrooms, water fountains, and picnic areas. You have the option of walking/hiking several trails, including a paved bike path that many stroll down.

Most of the hikes are loops and several trails intersect, so it’s hard to get lost as long as you’re staying toward the West side of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve (not crossing over the very large mountains to the East). There are inclines and no shade, so be sure to bring plenty of water for your dog too.

Korra walks on leash, but we tuck it behind her for a quick photo when no one else is around.

Note: these trails are all used frequently by mountain bikers. Be vigilant as you hike in case you need to move your dog off the trail for bikers to pass. It is not recommended to hike with headphones because of this. The bikers are very active.

Water drain path accessed from the trailhead straight ahead (North) when pulling into the park’s parking lot.

Please remember to bring doggie poop bags. With the surplus of people on the weekends, we’ve seen many leave their dog’s droppings. Be kind to your parks and neighbors. We like to enjoy a clean park!
